Room At The Top - Wins his 2nd Trial, Jayconi Spelled
09/03/2011 10:39
Room at The Top ran a trial (his 2nd) today at Mornington over 800m with Ben Melham on board.
Field of 5. Track Dead. Again, he was very pleasing.
He walked stright into the barriers, jumped away in about 2nd and went straight to the lead showing really good speed.
Ben tried to settle him mid race and he did settle, and hence coming around he was headed. With RATT about 4 off the fence, the horse on his inside hugged the rail and went to a clear 3-4l lead by the 200m (see pic).
'RATT' then picked up the ground very quickly, and under his own steam, hitting the lead at about the 100m (see pic) and went onto win by over a length.
In summary, he did everything right, got his barrier certificate, and again surprised us all with his speed and professionalism.
Ben said he still has a big raw galloping action, but he jumped great, and ran perfectly straight, and again hit the line strong, without being for too much effort. The others were being urged and a whip or two was heard. 'RATT' is still to feel the leather of the whip (or padded bannan or whatever it is these days!).
A trial at Mornington is nothing to get too excited about but it's certainly better to be winning them without any fuss (nor really being asked to 'go'), than to be not winning. He is not at all 'fat' so the only issue will be if Jason can keep condition on him.
Based on today, if he pulls up well and eats up, we'll be looking for a 1100 / 1200m race in the next 10-14 days.... a Maiden in the country. Fingers crossed.
Jayconi jarred up during the last week of trackwork, and wil be spelled for 6-8 weeks.
