Meadows Update 21/02/2011
21/02/2011 11:46Hello all,
Today we start in the same place as I did with the last update.... the impressive son of Bianconi - JAYCONI.
JAYCONI (Bianconi - Little Miss Ruby)
After Geelong Saturday was abandonded due to strong winds, Jayconi made the long trip north to WODONGA to start today, Monday 21st on a GOOD3.
After bolting in first start he was jumping in class to rating 0-72, and in distance to 1400m. That is never as easy thing for an inexperienced horse to do.
The Moody factor and the manner of his last win clearly had much to do with him opening 1.70 'fixed'. I was delighted to see the locals talking up Thrillionaire and there being a legitimate case for the 'market mover' Private Juene (dropping back from city class), such that Jayconi's odds actually drifted out to 2.20 at the 'off'.
Jayconi again sprung the gates well, strode to the lead and settled comfortably outside the leader. There he stayed, relaxing very well in transit, until the top of the home straight.
He was then given a little more rein to hit the lead at the 300m with an immediate challenge coming from Thrillionaire, who had moved up outside him to be within a length.
For a moment it looked as though Thrillionaire may be set to win, but Jayconi was then asked to shift up a gear and responded in style. Although the 2nd horse got to 1/2 length Jayconi was never headed remaining strong to, and over the line.
While it did look a deal tougher than his last start win, it was a very strong performance that was highlighted after the race with the jock stating that 'he won that in 3rd gear and was just sort of toying with them. He's a very nice horse'.
As previously stated, now his rating will be adjusted upwards, he is likely to progress to Sandown on the 9th March in a 1600m 0-72 event.
Again... good news for the 'Might and Power Racing Club' who lease a share in the half sister 'Gemma' (Little Miss Ruby's second foal, by Churchill Downs).
Gemma (Churchill Downs - Little Miss Ruby)
Continues her work in pre-training at the Meadows and while only in the 'trot and canter' stage, is doing nothing wrong.
With the recent rains the Meadows track in perfect DEAD5 type condition last week and Peter and Janet duly took the opportunity to give her a little gallop.
She worked well and continues her progress. Peter did measure her and confirmed she will reach at least 15.3 hh, but she is still a little shorter than that in the front. That means she has a fair bit of growing to do, and it would be foolish to try to push on too far with her this preparation. Instead, she is likely to continue until she starts to show signs of needing a rest, and then be spelled (2-3 months) to allow for that growth to occur.
Churchill Downs is continuing to create much interest as a sire with Emrald Downs running 2nd in a $250,000 race at Mornington (16/02/2011), beaten only by the very promising Masthead.
Elton (Kempinsky - Lady Madeleine)
Is in training at Jason Warren's and the latest report is very positive with him being expected to have a jump out in about 2 weeks time.
16/02/2011 - "Elton galloped in company at Mornington yesterday morning over 800 metres improving the last 200, Ben Melham rode him and suggested that he is a big raw horse that feels like he has got something there, he is also quite green when it comes to quickening up in his gallop but this will come with experience. Elton went through the barriers for education this morning here at Denistoun and wasn't fazed by them at all he was very manageable going into the barriers and behaved very well in them and jumped away cleanly when they opened, all going well he is probably only a couple of weeks off having a jump out. Regards Jason."
He will be named and registered ASAP and hopefully racing within a month! Details to follow as they come to hand.
Paris (Fastnet Rock - Curzon Place)
The Moody stable continues to be very pleased with her. All reports are that during this second preparation she has really developed into a race horse.
She had a fast gallop last Tuesday and went well. She has a fast gallop on the Visco synthetic track tomorrow and will then head to a Caulfield 'jump out' a week or two after that.
All going well she will have her first race start within 3-4 weeks. Knowing the Moody stable, it can be expected that she will start in the country to get some experience and hopefully show she has some ability.
She will be registered and named this week. Details to follow as they come to hand.
PS: Thanks to all the owners for helping us complete the paperwork and lets hope the Syndicate 'Storm Racing Rocks' lives up to its name!
Kind Reagrds
