JAYCONI Wins by 7L at first start.

The chestnut son of Bianconi, out of Little Miss Ruby (Rubiton) took 4 years to get to the track, finally having his first race start at Wangaratta yesterday (Monday 7/02/2011).
During his 3yo season, and after an impressive 2nd in his first Caulfield 'jump out', I had made mention of him to the recipients of these updates. Unfortunately he strained a ligament and had to be put away.
This preparation he came back as a 4yo and after a few weeks at Moody's we heard reports that he had 'demolished' another 'jump out' field, and was 'going very well'. Again I recently made mention that he would be running soon, and I hope some of you 'black booked' and 'found him' yesterday.
Most recently he ran 2nd in what they call a 'club trial' (somewhere in between a 'jump out' and an 'official trial') and yesterday in Race 1 at 'the Wang', even with no 'public' / 'exposed' form, he still stepped out $2.20 favourite on the VIC TAB. While not the most enticing betting proposition, at the very least it was a case of 'sit back and watch the show'.... and what a first start performance it was!
Racing over 1170m, from barrier 7 in a field of 8, he jumped a little awkardly, but quickly mustered some pace and strode to the lead inside the first 200m. While some pressure was applied mid race, he had travelled beautifully and was simply cruising on the home turn, with the others being urged just to keep up. For a brief moment it looked as though something might submit a challenge, but with an ever so slight reminder from 'the other Nolen' (Shaun) Jayconi emphatically closed the show. Accelerating from the 300m to the line the margin on his rivals continued to expand. Despite never being asked to hit absolute top speed, and eased down near the line, he sped away to win by 7 lengths in very impressive style. The time of 1.10.05 (and the manner in which he did it) on a SLOW7 compares well with the 1170m races at Wangaratta on Monday 17th Jan; run on a DEAD4 (Rail: Rail Out 4m 1000m - 400m, True Remainder - the same as yesterday), the Peter G Moody 3YO filly DO RA MI won and clocked 1-9.30, BELTONIC won in 1-10.04, and BELLATHEBALL recorded 1-10.08 in winning a Class 1 Hcp. DO RA MI also went on to win its next start at Sandown by 2.3L (3YO 0-68).
The field was cetainly nothing special and a Maiden at Wangaratta is nothing to get too excited about, but I have no doubt JAYCONI will be better over 14000-1600m, is city class, and one to follow. If you have not done already - put JAYCONI in your black book now, and look for him to race over 1400m in the country in about 2 weeks (to get his rating up), and then to progress to Sandown on the 9th March in a 1600m 0-72 event.
